Horse Retirement Program
"Well Done My Good and Faithful Servant"

Purpose: To allow people a place to retire their horses.  This program allows for a retired horse to be well cared for and still remain active through their remaining years.  These horses will be used in many different programs where an experienced horse is needed for educational purposes, training purposes, light riding purposes, etc.

Horses in the Retirement Program are received from their owners and are cared for by The Project.  The owners pay a monthly fee that simply covers the board and medical/dental costs.  Included in the program are different package options that cover funeral and burial costs for these faithful servants.  During their retirement, these horses will be used for many different tasks.  The old adage, "Use it or Lose it" is true for horses as well, therefore the horses may be eligible for service in one of the following:

F.E.O.S.A.P.- A program that takes school children on a horse ride while teaching them about wilderness survival.  The children are lead around in 2 to 3 minute riding intervals between each point of interest and will feed and groom the horses twice during each ride.

Touch Program- A program that uses horses to promote emotional healing.  Retired horses may be used in several of the facets of this program, including working with the I Can Project.  Our Touch Program will work with the I Can Project (a project that works with the impaired) to use horses in helping to bring peace of mind to the blind, deaf, mentally challenged, and many more.

Introduction to the Horse- A program that teaches basic horsemanship and provides an educational opportunity for young and old.  Retired horses can help teach basic riding techniques, grooming techniques, training techniques, etc.

These are a few examples of the benefits to the horses in this program.  Many older horses may still be used for work or activities, they simply must not be worked as hard. The Retirement Program is the perfect outlet for these seasoned horses to continue being of service and to stay active and healthy.
